Dr. John James Mercuri is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement and complex revision surgery. Born and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania, he returned home after completing his training in New York City at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital (formerly Hospital for Joint Diseases), and the Insall Scott Kelly Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Mercuri performs hundreds of hip and knee replacements each year. His practice focuses on personalized joint replacement using modern surgical techniques and technologies, including computer navigation, augmented reality and robotics. He has particular expertise in subvastus kinematic alignment for knee replacement and personalized implant positioning for hip replacement. His perioperative protocols are designed to minimize pain, swelling and opioid use while supporting early walking and return to daily activities.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Mercuri serves as Director of Quality for the Musculoskeletal Institute, Director of the Geisinger Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, and Associate Professor at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. As a surgeon, educator and researcher, he has published and presented nationally and internationally on hip and knee replacement.
