Treatment
Minimally Invasive Hip Surgery
Dr. Mercuri performs the STAR (Superior Transverse Anatomic Reconstruction) approach for hip replacement. This minimally invasive technique is designed to protect the important muscles and soft tissues around the hip. Unlike a traditional posterior approach, the STAR approach allows the surgeon to work around key muscles instead of cutting through them. The surrounding tissues are then carefully repaired at the end of surgery. By limiting damage to the muscles and tissues around the hip, the STAR approach may lead to less blood loss, better early movement, and a faster recovery. The goal is a stable, well-functioning hip with less disruption to the tissues that help support and move the joint.
